A. Antonio Tomas has successfully secured the acquittal of Nathaniel Payne-Collins, a 22-year-old Miami-Dade man accused of murder. Payne-Collins, who was accused of ambushing and shooting 50-year-old security guard Robert Nelson with three others on August 17th, 2013 while he sat inside his car outside an apartment complex. According to police, after being shot nine times, Nelson was then pulled out of his vehicle and robbed of his gun, ID, and credit cards.
On January 9th, 2017, Payne-Collins was found not-guilty of murder by a jury. If convicted, Payne-Collins would have faced a mandatory life sentence, in prison, without the possibility of parole.
